EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW

Join us on our Basecamp Weekend: Exmoor—a fun and thrilling weekend of trail adventure in the Exmoor National Park. We’ve designed this weekend as the perfect offering for those who want to try out the 'Pure Trails Way' of doing things, or those who are simply looking for a fun weekend away.

It’s a rugged, high-energy taster of the 'Pure Trails' life. Whether you’re new to running and looking to find your feet on the dirt or a seasoned trail lover wanting to join a new tribe, this weekend is your gateway. We’ll stay in a communal bunkhouse for two nights with a selection of fully-guided trails to run, fireside stories, Q&A sessions, delicious home-cooked food, and the chance to spend the weekend with newfound friends.

The Experience

The Trails We’ve scouted a selection of routes that showcase the best of the South West: from the steep, dramatic coastal paths overlooking the Bristol Channel to the wild, open moorlands where the horizon never ends. Our runs are guided and social—we move as a crew and maintain a fun, cruisey pace.

The Knowledge (The 'Ask Us Anything' Sessions) You’ll be staying and running with our team of guides who have finished some of the world’s most brutal races, including the 268-mile Winter Spine, UTMB, and the Dragon’s Back. Throughout the weekend, we’ll host casual talks covering:

  • Kit & Gear: What you actually need (and what you don't).

  • Nutrition: How to fuel for your long distances run/races.

  • Adventure Planning: How to prepare for any of our adventures, from Albania to the Himalayas.

The Recovery We are also out to have a lot of fun, with downtime in between runs to lean into the recovery side of adventure. We’ll host a stretch session to reset mobility and head to a local Exmoor pub for a well-earned drink and dinner.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

  • 2 Nights Bunkhouse Accommodation: Simple, clean, and communal—the heart of the Basecamp experience.

  • Guided Runs: Varied distances led by expert ultra-running guides at a social pace.

  • Workshops & Talks: Access to the 'Pure Trails' team by the fire.

  • Home-Cooked Food: Delicious communal meals to refuel after the trails (2 breakfasts, 1 lunch & 1 dinner)

  • Mobility Session: Tailored specifically for trail legs.

  • The Community: Instant access to the 'Pure Crew’ and connect with fellow Pure Trails guests over an epic weekend, sharing stories, laughs and the excitement for future adventures

  • Pure Trails merch

OUR ITINERARY

DAY 01 | WELCOME TO NORTHCOMBE

TRAIL RUNNING: APPROX. 10KM

After arriving at our Northcombe base (check-in from 5pm onwards), we’ll kick things off with a gentle shakeout run (approx. 10km) across the surrounding moors to find our feet and settle into the 'Pure Trails' pace.

The evening is spent around the wood-burning stove with a delicious home-cooked communal feast, drinks and good company. This will be followed by our first 'Ask Us Anything' session and adventure talks to gear up for the days ahead.

DAY 02 | FULL DAY ON THE TRAILS

TRAIL RUNNING: APPROX. 20KM

After a delicious home made breakfast, we’ll lace up and get ready for our guided trail running across Exmoor. Today is all about the wild heart of Exmoor. We’ll traverse open moorland, conquering steep valleys and wide horizons at a fun, social pace. It’s fully supported (we have a support vehicle with us ready and waiting to give us snacks, drinks and nutrition), and fully guided so you can relax and enjoy a pressure free adventure run.

Post-run, we shift focus to recovery with a tailored stretch session, followed by a visit to a proper local pub for a well-earned drink and dinner. We’ll then head back to the barn for fireside stories and Q/A with the Pure Trails crew.

DAY 03 | UNTIL NEXT TIME

We’ll finish with one last communal breakfast and say our goodbyes, leaving with new skills, new friends, and a new trail running tribe to call your own.

WHERE WE STAY

NORTHCOMBE CAMPING BARN

For this adventure, we’re heading to the Northcombe Camping Barn, a classic stone-built barn tucked away in the heart of the Exmoor landscape. This is "Basecamp" in the truest sense of the word. Northcombe is about rolling out of your bunk and being minutes away from some of the best trails in the UK. The barn features a large, open-plan living and dining area with a wood-burning stove—the perfect spot for our evening 'Ask Us Anything' sessions and communal feasts.

It’s simple, clean, and functional. With bunk style sleeping platforms and a shared kitchen, it creates the kind of environment where the best trail stories are told and friendships are formed over steaming mugs of coffee. The barn sleeps up to 16 people (made up of 2 dormitories that sleep 10 and 6). The sleeping areas are partitioned giving some privacy where bunks are provided

In the adjoining linhay barn, we have access to a dedicated games room. Expect some healthy 'Pure Crew' competition over the table tennis table after a day on the moors.

IMPORTANT NOTES

+ AM I FIT ENOUGH FOR THIS?

Absolutely. All running abilities are welcome at Basecamp. Our runs are designed to be social and "cruisey." With a high guide-to-runner ratio, we ensure everyone is supported, whether you’re a seasoned runner or someone just finding their trail legs.

+ WHAT ABOUT FOOD AND DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

We’ve got you covered. We provide delicious, home-cooked communal meals throughout the weekend. We can cater for all dietary requirements (vegan, GF, etc.)—just let us know when you book.

We have one night out for dinner in the local pub (excluded), however they can cater for dietary requirements and we'll share the menu with you in advance.

+ IS THERE PARKING ON SITE?

Yes, there is plenty of space for those driving. Northcombe has on-site parking for up to 15 cars, so you can arrive and leave your vehicle safely for the duration of the weekend.

+ WHAT IF I DON'T DRIVE? HOW DO I GET THERE?

Train at Taunton, Buses from Taunton to Jury Road Garage, Dulverton about 25 minutes uphill walk away or we can come and collect you if timings work.

+ IMPORTANT NOTES ON BEDDING & WIFI

Visitors must bring their own pillows, sleeping bags or quilts and warm clothing is advisable in winter.

Northcombe is a place to get away from it all so there is no WiFi but guests are welcome to use the WiFi at Woods Bar and Restaurant in Dulverton for free.

+ CAN I COME ON MY OWN?

90% of our guests arrive solo. The communal nature of the barn and the shared miles on the moor mean you’ll have a new running tribe by Friday night dinner.
