We arrange adventure running holidays to a range of remarkable destinations around the world. These are journeys rather than races — we scope out the most amazing runs, selecting breathtaking routes that combine with cultural gems to give you a trail-running holiday like no other.
We prefer our groups small (max. 10) and use our own team of amazing guides everywhere we go. You'll experience nothing but total support, encouragement, and inspiration every step of the way.
All of our trips are fully supported with flexible daily running distances, catering for a range of abilities. We stay in comfortable boutique accommodation in towns and cities, and cosy guesthouses up in the mountains. Luggage, nutrition, guiding and transfers are always included.
We prefer to travel on beautiful, empty trails to places which are reasonably off the beaten path. You can expect everything from beech forests, lush meadows, open pastures and soft grass in entry valleys.
We also do a lot of running in the mountains — some days include walking or running through steep mountain passes as we traverse from one valley to the next. As we go higher the terrain becomes dryer, with cobbles, stones and boulder sections.
Occasionally we run at altitudes higher than 2,500m, but typically our ascent will not go over 1,500m. It's worth paying attention to the grade of each trip to get a feel for how challenging the terrain might be.
A typical day sees us depart after breakfast, joining either our support vehicle for transfer to the trailhead or heading straight from our mountain guesthouse. On average we are on our feet between 3–5 hours covering 18–25km — though this is not all running. We make sure we stop to soak up the views, take pictures and get the most out of where we are.
We always have at least two trail guides with the group at all times. On European destinations our driver/guide also joins the route, giving a greater guide-to-runner ratio so you can run at your own comfortable pace.
After the trail we'll enjoy picnic lunches, then head back to the hotel to relax before meeting for drinks, dinner and stories later in the evening.
We prefer characterful boutique hotels and lodges which offer personality, rather than larger resorts. Location is key — it's nice to get out and explore rather than be bused in for sightseeing.
When out on the trail we make the most of cosy, simpler village guesthouses — often alpine-style, surrounded by meadows, with panoramic views from every room. Delicious local meals are served in the evenings. Expect big plates of mozzarella, salads, olives, cured meats, dhal bhat, pizzas and pasta.
We're always working on new adventures and launch new trips throughout the year. The first place to hear about new adventures is via our newsletter — make sure you're subscribed!
Absolutely. The majority of our guests (over 90%) join us solo. We created Pure Trails for like-minded people — those looking to connect with others who share an interest in trails, adventure and travel. You'll arrive as a stranger and leave with a new group of friends.
We offer a twin shared room if you're happy to share with a new roommate, or a private room if you prefer your own space.
Most of our guests are aged between their 30s and 50s, though there's no age limit. Our oldest traveller to date was in their early 70s and our youngest was 18.
Despite being a British company, it's very typical for us to have guests from all over the world — Australia, North America, Scandinavia and a range of European countries all join our adventures regularly.
Not super fit — our trips are designed for people of all abilities. The focus is on the journey rather than going from A to B as fast as possible. The trips are challenging and rewarding, but also adaptable for different fitness levels.
That said, distances and terrain vary by destination and it's worth checking the trip grading before booking. We also recommend having a decent base of fitness before joining us as all trips involve back-to-back running days.
No problem. Once you're booked we'll be in touch to get all of this information from you. Some destinations can be harder than others to cater for specific requirements like vegan, but with advance planning we ensure everyone is properly catered for.
We send out a detailed kit list to all guests once they have joined their adventure. Everything you need to know will be in there.
We include just about everything so you can focus on trail running in extraordinary places. All transfers, trail running, guiding, accommodation, most meals and cultural experiences are included.
The only additional costs are individual souvenirs, snacks and beverages outside of what we provide — for example, a local beer from a café partway through the day.
No, flights are not included. We do not sell air tickets. We can provide general advice on routes and booking platforms if needed, but cannot book anything on your behalf.
Let us know your arrival and departure details in advance and we will take care of everything else from the moment you land.

Any notice of cancellation must be provided in writing. All transaction fees from our payment gateway will be deducted from any refund.

Due to our need to commit to accommodation and other arrangements in advance, exceptions cannot be made for any reason. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
If Pure Trails cancels: You are entitled to transfer all sums paid to another Pure Trails trip within two years, or request a full refund.
Injuries happen from time to time. If something isn't right, please inform a member of our team immediately — all guides are first-aid trained.
Depending on severity we'll prepare an alternative plan — this might mean joining the support vehicle and hiking suitable sections of the trail. If rest and recovery are necessary you'll be able to remain in the vehicle or be transferred to accommodation. If the injury is severe enough to prevent participation entirely, we'll advise on or arrange alternative options where possible.
In our experience it's extremely rare for a participant to need to drop out completely. There is no substitute for good travel insurance to cover trip curtailment.
We'd love to hear from you.
