Peel back the veil on Georgia and you will find something magical.

Loaded with culture and a vast array of differing landscapes, mountain trails meander through centuries-old townships and monasteries straddle ridgelines against a peak-studded backdrop. Georgia is one of the most extraordinary and underexplored destinations on earth — and we have it almost entirely to ourselves.

Our journey begins in lively Tbilisi — reputed to be one of the coolest cities in Europe — where we get a slice of Georgian culture, good food and wine before heading to the mountain kingdom of Svaneti. Here we spend five core days traversing trails that dip in and out of picturesque mountain villages, alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks rising above 5,000m.

We experience the very best Georgia has to offer — glaciers, waterfalls and empty trails. Nightly accommodation is cosy local guesthouses with delicious Georgian cuisine and wine to ensure we're well rested and recovered for the next day's adventure.

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Day 01 · Arrival
Welcome to Tbilisi
Easy city run
Cultural explore
Highlights
Welcome to Georgia! Most international flights arrive early morning — our group transfer will be waiting at Tbilisi Airport with immediate hotel check-in so you can rest. Late morning we meet for breakfast and briefing before heading out for a slow-paced city run through Tbilisi's mysterious old town. Welcome dinner in the city to kick off the adventure.
Day 2 Drive to Svaneti
Day 02 · Transfer Day
Onward to Mazeri, Svaneti
Travel day
No trail running
Highlights
After an early breakfast and kit check we board our 4WDs for the journey into Svaneti National Park — approximately 8.5 hours with stops in Kutaisi and Zugdidi for lunch. The route threads through the impressive Enguri River gorge as the mountains begin to jut on the horizon. Arriving in the village of Mazeri (1,660m) we check into our guesthouse for dinner and a briefing on the trails ahead.
Day 3 Ushba Waterfall Georgia
Day 03 · Trail Run
Trail Running to Ushba Waterfall
~14km
450m+
Highlights
A perfect acclimatisation day staying in Mazeri. We follow the mountain path along the valley bottom with mountains surrounding us on all sides — the Dolra River flanking us as we pass through small Georgian settlements. We climb to a spectacular viewpoint of the Ushba Waterfall, one of the most impressive in the country, before doubling back to the guesthouse for lunch and a relaxed afternoon.
Day 4 Guli Pass Mestia
Day 04 · Trail Run
Mazeri to Mestia via the Guli Pass
~22km
1,900m+
Highlights
Our biggest day — a demanding and jaw-dropping trail via the high Guli Pass. From Mazeri we climb through Bagvdanari village into the Gulichala valley, ascending to a tranquil meadow with the ruins of Gul village, then past shepherd huts to the Guli Pass (2,974m) with some of the finest views of Mt. Ushba in the Caucasus. A steep descent crosses the Pushkueri River all the way down to Mestia.
Day 5 Hatsvali Adishi Georgia
Day 05 · Trail Run
Hatsvali to Adishi
~25km
1,500m+
Highlights
We take the Mestia ski lift to Hatsvali to cut the initial climb, then run on flatter roads before flowing through valleys and medieval Svan villages. Cutting right before the valley end we climb over the pass — a beautiful trail on the other side descends into the fairytale village of Adishi. Check in to our guesthouse with the rest of the day to explore this remote and magical place.
Day 6 Adishi Ushguli Glacier
Day 06 · Trail Run
Adishi to Ushguli via Khalde Glacier
~19km
1,000m+
Highlights
A truly magical trail through one of Svaneti's most beautiful valleys. An early start as we face the Adischala River crossing 5km from Adishi — at its lowest in the morning with an option to cross by horseback. Once across, take a moment to admire the impressive glacier before climbing steeply to Chkhunderi Pass and descending into the UNESCO-listed village of Ushguli — one of the highest inhabited settlements in Europe.
Day 7 Zagaro Pass Georgia
Day 07 · Trail Run
Ushguli to Lower Svaneti via the Zagaro Pass
~19km
655m+
Highlights
Our final day on the trail. Leaving Ushguli on flatter jeep tracks to ease us in, the trail gradually rises to the Zagaro Pass with breathtaking 360° views before descending through abandoned villages and past the ruins of an old arsenic factory at the glacial foothills. Arriving in Tsana we've officially completed our crossing of the Transcaucasian trail. Transfer to Tskaltubo to celebrate.
Day 8 Mtskheta Tbilisi
Day 08 · Journey Day
Journey to Tbilisi via Mtskheta
Travel day
No trail running
Highlights
We check out with a final mountain breakfast before heading back to Tbilisi via the ancient capital of Mtskheta — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — for lunch and sightseeing. Arriving in Tbilisi in the afternoon we check into our hotel with time to relax and explore before heading out for our farewell dinner together.

// Good to know
Important notes.

We specialise in arranging excellent trail running holidays but do not book international flights. There is a great variety of flights departing from all over the world to Tbilisi International Airport (TBS).

The vast majority of flights arrive in Tbilisi in the very early hours of the morning — usually around 4am. We will discuss our trusted and recommended ways to book international flights through excellent ATOL-protected partners who offer great value, ease of service and flight protection.

British, American and EU citizens can enter and remain in Georgia for a maximum of 365 days without a visa. We recommend checking the latest entry requirements for your nationality before booking.

Being a group of max. 12 runners with a mixture of ages and running abilities, we may decide to split into flexible groups — all of which will be supported by our Georgian running guides who travel with us throughout the trip.

Splitting the group allows everyone to move more fluidly, running at their own comfortable pace without feeling pressured.

Trail running in Georgia is spectacular, with very few other groups delivering experiences in this style. The country is still well off the beaten path, with very few travellers making it to the Georgian Caucasus — so expect the trails to be empty.

We'll travel through alpine meadows, past waterfalls and glaciers, on quiet mountain trails. At times we will cross from one valley to the next, climbing steeper paths with boulder and dry rock sections. Our maximum altitude reaches around 2,970m.

Large luggage is transported by vehicle from point to point throughout the trip.

Travelling to Georgia in July is peak season and we can expect temperatures in the mid-20s °C. In the mountains the air is refreshing and a touch cooler, with very pleasant daytime temperatures. At night temperatures can drop to the high teens °C. We anticipate the conditions to be perfect for trail running.
