Mallorca Trail Running Holidays: The Complete Guide to Running the Serra de Tramuntana
Mallorca Trail Running Holidays:
The Complete Guide
Most people know Mallorca as a beach destination. Trail runners know it as something else entirely — home to the Serra de Tramuntana, one of Europe's most spectacular mountain ranges, and some of the finest trail running on the continent.
If you've been searching for a trail running holiday that combines world-class terrain with warm weather, stunning scenery and a genuine sense of adventure — Mallorca belongs at the top of your list.
We first ran the Tramuntana trails a few years ago and I remember thinking: why isn't everyone doing this? The paths are ancient, the views are extraordinary, and the whole northwest of the island feels like it belongs to trail runners. It's become one of our most-loved destinations — and one of the first trips I recommend to anyone asking where to start.
"There's a moment on day three when you crest a ridge and the Mediterranean just appears below you. Every single guest stops in their tracks. Every time."
Why Mallorca is One of Europe's Best Trail Running Destinations
The Serra de Tramuntana is a UNESCO World Heritage mountain range that runs along the island's northwest coast for around 90 kilometres. It's packed with ancient stone paths — known locally as camí — that have connected mountain villages for centuries. Today those paths are the backbone of some of the finest trail running in Europe.
The terrain is endlessly varied. Pine forest tracks give way to exposed ridgelines. Coastal paths drop into hidden coves. Dramatic limestone gorges open into wide valley floors. Every day on the trail brings something different to look at — and the Mediterranean is almost always somewhere in view.
The climate is ideal. Spring and autumn bring warm, dry days that are perfect for running — cool enough in the mountains to move comfortably, warm enough in the evenings to sit outside with a glass of local wine and feel like you've genuinely escaped. We run Mallorca departures in May and October to make the most of these conditions.
The trails are quiet. Unlike some of Europe's more heavily touristed walking routes, the mountain paths above the Tramuntana are largely empty. You can run for hours without seeing another soul.
What a Pure Trails Mallorca Holiday Looks Like
Our Mallorca trail running holiday is built around five days of guided running through the Serra de Tramuntana, based in the charming town of Sóller — right in the heart of the mountains, with the sea visible from the hillsides above the town.
Each day takes you onto a different section of trail. From the dramatic stone staircase of the Barranc de Biniaraix gorge to the exposed ridge paths above the coastline. From ancient camí connecting medieval villages to pine forest tracks with the Mediterranean glittering through the trees.
You'll cover around 15–24km per day, with a mix of running and hiking to suit the terrain and the group. There's no race, no pressure on pace. The goal is to experience this landscape properly — stopping for views, exploring villages, eating well, and arriving at the end of each day genuinely satisfied.
A typical day
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the trailhead. Four to five hours on the trail with your guides, covering ground at a pace that lets you actually take it in. Picnic lunch somewhere spectacular. Back to Sóller by mid-afternoon with time to explore before dinner together in the evening.

Who Is This Trip For?
The Mallorca trip suits runners of all abilities — from road runners making their first move onto trails to experienced mountain runners looking for a guided experience in a beautiful new destination.
You don't need to be fast. You don't need to have run mountains before. You do need a reasonable base of fitness — comfortable running or hiking for three to five hours with some ascent and descent — and a willingness to embrace something a little different to your usual training run.
Over 90% of our guests travel solo. Groups are intentionally small, which means you'll spend five days with a handful of like-minded people who share your appetite for trails and adventure. The friendships that form on these trips are one of the things our guests talk about most — people arrive not knowing a soul and leave already planning their next trip together.
It's also one of the trips I most often recommend as a first Pure Trails experience. The terrain is challenging without being intimidating. The location is easy to get to. And Mallorca itself — the food, the wine, the evening light over the mountains — takes care of everything in between the running.
The Serra de Tramuntana: What You'll Actually Run
The trails vary day to day, which is one of the things that makes this trip special. No two days feel the same.
The gorges
The Barranc de Biniaraix is one of the great trail running experiences on the island — an ancient stone staircase that rises through a dramatic gorge, worn smooth by centuries of use. The climb is steep and sustained, but the views from the top make every step worth it.
The ridgelines
Running the exposed ridges above the northwest coast with the Mediterranean on both sides is the kind of experience that makes you understand why people do this. On a clear day you can see the island's entire northwest coastline stretching out in both directions.
The village trails
The ancient camí connecting Tramuntana villages like Deià, Valldemossa and Fornalutx are some of the most beautiful paths I've ever run. Stone walls, olive groves, lemon trees, the distant sound of bells. Unhurried and extraordinary.
"Running the Tramuntana feels like being let in on a secret. This is one of the most beautiful places in Europe — and almost nobody is up here."
Practical Information for Your Mallorca Trail Running Holiday
Best time to go
April, May and October are ideal. Spring brings wildflowers and fresh green hillsides. Autumn offers golden light and cooler temperatures for running. We deliberately avoid the summer months — July and August are too hot for comfortable trail running in the mountains.
Getting there
Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is well served from most UK airports, with flight times of around 2 hours. easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 and British Airways all fly direct. We provide group transfers from the airport on arrival day.
Trail grade
We grade Mallorca as Adventurous — our middle tier. Suitable for runners who are comfortable on their feet for 3–5 hours with moderate ascent and descent. No technical climbing or scrambling. Full details on our trip grading page.
What to pack
Trail running shoes, a running vest or pack (5–10 litres), waterproof jacket, sun cream and layers for the evenings. A full kit list is provided when you book. The most important thing: make sure your trail shoes are properly broken in before you travel. New shoes on day one of a trail holiday is the most common mistake we see.
May 2026 — Last Few Spaces
We have two May departures remaining for 2026 — 2–6 May and 16–20 May — with a small number of spaces left on each. Autumn dates are also available later in the year.
From £1,295pp — flights excluded.
If Mallorca has been on your radar, now is the time. These May spaces won't last long — and once they're gone, the next availability is October.
