The Isle of Man is quietly tucked away between Ireland and mainland UK, and what you'll find is a sensational wilderness characterised by lush valleys, rolling hills and a rugged coastline scattered with secret beaches. Now regarded as one of the most beautiful spots in Britain — and we couldn't agree more.
Glens with waterfalls and rounded mountain peaks, rocky beaches and lighthouses, cosy inns and artisanal restaurants. On this adventure we'll spend three full days running perfect trails set well away from the rat race — crossing the island, summiting its highest peak, and gliding around the coastline.
This is a Moderate-graded trip — ideal for runners looking for a brilliant long-weekend adventure closer to home, with wild scenery and genuinely special trails without the need for high-altitude or technical mountain experience.
Beautifully located on Douglas Bay seafront with great views overlooking the Irish Sea. The Empress is a 4★ Victorian townhouse hotel wonderfully placed in central Douglas — convenient for getting around the island and perfectly positioned to kick back after a brilliant day on the trails.

Book Your Free Call →The Isle of Man is well connected to the mainland. You can fly to Ronaldsway International Airport (IOM) almost daily from Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, London Gatwick, Belfast and Edinburgh with Easyjet. Loganair also fly directly from Birmingham and London Heathrow. For international arrivals you will likely need to connect through one of these hubs.
Please look to arrive before midday on Day 1 where we'll be hosting a group transfer at a set time. If you arrive outside of the transfer window it is easy to get a taxi or bus into Douglas, where we'll arrange to meet you.
We'll be out on the trail for around 3–5 hours each day, covering roughly 12–27km depending on the stage. It's not all-out running — we jog the flats, run the downhills and walk the steeper climbs, with plenty of stops along the way at hidden beaches, mountain tops, waterfalls and more.
There is no pressure on speed. Two guides are with the group throughout, so one of us will always be close by. We may split into smaller groups to help everyone move at their own comfortable pace — we'll discuss this once the trip is underway.
A fully stocked support vehicle accompanies the group throughout the adventure, serving as a pop-up aid station at intervals along each route with water, snacks, lunches and nutrition. You can also use it to store any kit or luggage you don't want to carry.
If at any point someone doesn't want to continue, they can hop in and be transferred further along the route to rejoin the group — or simply be taken back to the hotel to rest for the remainder of the day.
The Isle of Man offers a wonderful mix — rugged coastal cliffs, rolling hills, picturesque glens, hidden coves and panoramic sea views. You can expect a blend of quiet lanes, paved tracks, undulating grassy coastal paths and high rounded mountain tops, with underfoot conditions varying throughout.
The coastal sections can be rocky and at times the trail runs above significant cliff drops. When wet, rocky sections become considerably more slippery, so good trail shoes with appropriate grip are essential. We'll always highlight sections that require extra care and attention.
We run in May, one of the driest months on the island, when the countryside is lush and green. Average temperatures sit around 16°C, though you should be prepared for anything from a warmer 20°C to a cooler 10°C — this is Britain, after all.
Rain and wind are always possible, as is bright sunshine. In the hills it's not unusual to experience four seasons in a single day, so please pack layers and dress for all conditions. We'll send a full kit list in advance to help you prepare.
